TRAINING COURSE INFORMATION

 

The Basic Game Farm Management & Ranger Guide Course is ideally suited for those wishing to pursue a conservation orientated career, as well as for people wishing to improve their own personal knowledge of wildlife and game farming.  There is no entry level required to enroll for the course; however a basic knowledge of game conservation and the veld would be helpful to the student, although this is not essential.

 

 

SUBJECTS COVERED IN THE COURSE

 

1.                  GAME FARM MANAGEMENT

·                    Fencing and law requirements

·                    Fire-breaks and block burning

·                    Situation of waterholes

·                    Habituate evaluation

·                    Bush clearing and making of roads

·                    Game capture, culling etc.

·                    Skinning and treatment of skins

·                    Animals diseases and how to handle them

·                    Handling and treatment of injured animals

·                    Basic snake identification

·                    Snake bites and treatment

 

2.                  GENERAL

·                    Birds, insect and tree identification

·                    Spoor identification of all game

·                    Practical tracking down of “Big 5”

·                    Interpreting wildlife sounds

·                    Habits of animals

·                    Handling of firearms, what caliber and ammunition

·                    Basic 4x4 skills

·                    Safari etiquette for both lodge and trail setups

·                    Nature conservation and the law

·                    Basic ecology, geology, astronomy

 

RECOGNITION

 

On completion of the course, students will be required to complete both a practical and theoretical examination.  Students, who pass the final examination, will be awarded a certificate of success.

 

EMPLOYMENT

 

Those who successfully complete the training course and wish to pursue a career in the wildlife/game ranch industry in the Lowveld will be assisted as much as possible by referring students to various companies, Lodges or Game Farm owners who are looking for employees.

Experienced and dedicated team of Rangers conducts the Moholoholo Game Farm Management and Ranger Guide Training Course.

 

 

ACCOMMODATION

 

A maximum of 10 persons can be accommodated per training course to enable the Training Guide to give individual attention to each student.

Sleeping accommodation during the course is in:

a)                  A typical lodge setup comprising thatched, cabins in a secluded camp.

b)                  A bush camp situated in a “Big 5” Game Reserve.

c)                  Around a campfire under the stars in a “Big 5” Game Reserve.

PRICE:            R 7150.00 per person per course for the 12-day in 2009

 

This is fully inclusive of all professional tuition, fully catered for meals and all accommodation. Transport to Moholoholo, cool-drinks and any other personal expenses are not included.

 

* Students who do not have transport to get to Moholoholo should contact us, as we do assist with the organizing of lifts with other students attending the same course where possible.

 

·                    A deposit of 50% is needed, within two weeks of making a booking, to secure it.

·                    Then fax the deposit slip with your enrollment and indemnity form (to download forms click here) to us immediately.  We also have credit card facilities, so you can fax us your credit card details with the amount we must deduct and we will then send you a confirmation of booking (unfortunately we do not accept American Express cards or Diners)

 

·                    If a booking is cancelled within 5 weeks or more before the date a 25% handling fee will be deducted from your deposit.

 

·                    If a booking is cancelled within 4 weeks before the Booking date the total deposit will be forfeited.

 

Students must arrive by 2:00 pm at the Moholoholo Forest Camp, the day the course commences.
